Oh, wow.

Image
So, I have this pair of red shoes. There's no place like home, click your heels together kind of red shoes. I love them so much, even though I bought them at Payless a few years ago and never thought I would actually wear them. Now, I wear them almost everyday to work and have done so for the past 8 months at least, which of course has caused them to wear out. Does that stop me from wearing them? Oh, no. The heel of one of the shoes is no longer sewn together. It's mostly held in place by the lining which is falling out of the gaping heel hole; but every morning without fail, I choose the red ones over any other shoes that I own. I really don't have much to choose from, but I just love my red shoes. I've known they were dying for quite a while, and I've honestly been trying to replace them, but of course, Payless doesn't have that same style and you can't find a pair of red shoes just anywhere. I mean, look at Dorothy. She had to follow the yellow brick road...

So long, farewell...

To quote Stephen Colbert: "I laughed, I cried, I lost 15 pounds!" Okay fine, that's not entirely true. I definitely laughed, I almost cried, and I can only pretend that I lost 15 pounds. I feel like another part of me is missing, dying even, a feeling similar to when my saggy-butt pajama pants began to go the way of all the earth, and even more like when they gave up the ghost once and for all just a few weeks ago (I disposed of them in the most convenient way possible - the nearest trash can, of course)...but most of all, it feels like a favorite child has disappointed you somehow and you know things will never, ever be the same. I tried to prepare mentally, emotionally, grammatically, ecumenically (thank you, Captain Jack), but still, that kind of adjustment takes time. Thank goodness the BBC is just cheesy enough to cause me to laugh instead of cry. I love Robin Hood. And I have loved the past three seasons worth of Jonas Armstrong as Robin Hood. He is really good at c...

Ho-hum...

It has been quite a long time since I've posted anything. I mostly feel like I have nothing to say and my life's not exciting enough to write about anyway. But...last week, I went to Utah to visit family, friends, and my beloved F.Y.E., and the library too. It was such a wonderful few days. I can tell I am going to struggle readjusting to "normal" life; it may take a while, like weeks and weeks and weeks kind of "a while". I just really needed to feel needed and missed and valuable - does that sound too conceited? I really am not satisfied with my current job, so it was refreshing to see that my previous places of employment actually missed me, and were even willing to fire someone in order to have a job for me. It was good to be appreciated for who I am and/or was when I worked there. F.Y.E. even had an emergency Pie Night for me; that meant a lot because I never actually felt trendy enough to work there, but it was one of those "aw, they do l...

Ahhh, the beach...

Image
I love the beach. I wish I could afford to perpetually be on vacation. I'm pretty sure I watch far too many episodes of HGTV's "House Hunters" where people relocate to their favorit e vacation spot somewhere in the Caribbean. Aside from the threat of pirates, how amazing would that be? Waves crashing on the sand, sun shining, cool tropical breezes blowing, living life with the windows open. Oh man, I could handle that. However, my recent trip to the beach was not quite the paradise I had envisioned. It was rainy and cold and cloudy. I was mostly okay with the temperature - heat and I do not get along so well - but I was sad for my niece, that the weather wasn't a little nicer for her first experience with "the beach". Paris and I decided to tag along with my parents for their anniversary trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. They went a few years ago and the weather was beautiful then. Not so much, this time around. We did have an oceanfront hotel, and they upgraded...

"The times, they are a-changin'..."

Oh, I'm so sad. My absolute favorite pair of pajama pants, the stretchy gray, saggy-butt-Captain Jack-pirate pants, are finally giving up the ghost. They've bitten the dust. They are going to meet their Maker. There are three holes on one knee that kind of look like a ghost face. They've been dying for a while now - the fabric's so thin, any attempt to patch them would do more harm than good - but I will wear them, in the privacy of my own home of course, until they are merely shreds of material no longer identifiable as what they once were. I should take a picture to commemorate all the good times. They were with me for my entire college career, through good, sane roommates and also the crazies, and even my second move to Utah...but, I guess my second move home has just proved to be too much. I think they even went to South Africa with me. Who knew that my sister's Walmart Christmas gift to me from seven-plus years ago would last so long and be such an int...

I can't like it...

I miss F.Y.E. I mean amazon.com is amazing, but I miss working at F.Y.E. and having everything I ever hoped and dreamed of right at my fingertips. Books, movies, music...instant gratification at its finest. I didn't have to pay for shipping or wait for my dream to be delivered. My niece has started to say "I can't like it" when referring to things that she doesn't like, such as the new Buzz Lightyear blanket that Grammy made for her. I asked her if I could have it and she replied, "Kiedy can't like it", so apparently I don't like it either. Except that I love it. She'd rather lay in my bed and watch Toy Story . At this point, I'd rather have the blanket. Or Toy Story 2 . So, here's what I say: I can't like it -- "it" referring to not working at F.Y.E. But not just any F.Y.E. I want to work at my F.Y.E., the one that started it all. I tried to transfer, but a few hours on the weekend just wasn't going to ...

I miss Provo...

...and more importantly, I miss the following things about my experience living in Provo: - F.Y.E. - the Provo City Library - working at the aforementioned places - being close to my brother and his family - BYU Singers , both singing with and supporting from the audience - having friends, good friends that meant, and still mean, a lot to me.... Don't get me wrong...I do have friends in Pennsylvania, but they mostly consist of my mom, my sister, and my sweet little niece, who is currently going through a phase with the movies "Elf" and "Nacho Libre". Also, I didn't have to experience awkward bookstore encounters with a shady figure from my past, fondly known as "Electronics Stalker-boy". I had a random, annoying experience with him before I moved, and now that I've been back for a few months, I've unintentionally discovered that he works at a bookstore in the mall. Needless to say, I will no longer be shopping ther...
