...to get to the other side.

So, I'm out of town on business this weekend, I guess that's what you'd call it. On Thursday night, I was driving up to State College, reluctantly following Mapquest's directions which had, like, 20 steps - google maps only gave me 8 steps, but the difference in mileage was enough to make my decision for me. Onward. It started off like a fairly normal roadtrip. Until I'm prompted to turn off the main highway, of sorts, to follow Mill Creek Hollow Road. Rule #1: All horror movies start with the simple act of turning off the main road to follow the unknown, dark, and treacherous mountain trail. That does not sound promising. I see a sign for "State Gaming Lands". What does that even mean? And then, are you ready for this - a turkey crosses the road in front of me. A turkey. Not a deer as expected, but a Happy Thanksgiving. No, thank you. Come on, Mapquest! I'd rather be with the British mourning the loss of the Colonies. I was ever so relieved to exit the mountainous, horror-movie-setting "State Gaming Lands" and reach civilized roadways once again. So, why did the turkey cross the road? To get to the other side, apparently. And to freak me out. Dang Mapquest.

Never before have I been so grateful or excited to see Walmart. Although, I've actually been having a good time - cashiering, even - as 43,000 students come back into town for the start of school on Monday. I'll finish blogging about this weekend when I get home. My room is the only room in the entire hotel without functional internet - of course - so, I'm borrowing from the room of a fellow Walmart associate and I shouldn't overstay my welcome. I just needed to share this one, uniquely startling experience of mine...

  1. Wow...that sounds like a blast. I have to say that I learned (the hard way) that Google maps directions are rarely correct on the east coast and mapquest is almost always. On the west coast though...always stick to google maps. Weird eh?
